DIFFUSER - £23.99

NOW AVAILABLE AS A COLLAR - see related items at bottom of page
In all mammals, all mothering females release a substance called "appeasing pheromones", the function of which is to reassure their offspring. Canine "appeasing pheromones" are secreted by the sebaceous glands of mothering bitches. These pheromones calm the puppy at times of stress and provide reassurance, particularly in unknown environments and when encountering new experiences.
Research has shown that the reassuring properties of these pheromones persist even into adult age.
Available as a Diffuser (requires 240v Socket) and Room Spray
D.A.P (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) is a result of veterinary research and reproduces all the properties of natural appeasing pheromones of female dogs.
Place the D.A.P diffuser in the room most used by your dog or use the spray to spray the dog’s bed, car area, living quarters or even in a bandana before going out to a potentially stressful area.
Each diffuser is able to cover an active area of 50-70 square metres
One vial last approximately 1 month (refills are available - see related items below.
Useful for:
Fear of fireworks
Fear of car travel
Help introduce puppies to their new homes
Help calm nervous dogs
Fear of being left alone.
Frequently asked questions:
What are pheromones?
Pheromones are extremely widespread in the animal kingdom and are used to communicate between members of the same species. Thus, the pheromones given off by one individual can affect and change the behaviour of other individuals of the same species. Examples of pheromones with which pet owners will already be familiar are the sex pheromones of dogs and cats. In addition to making the bitch or queen more attractive to the male when they are in season they can also influence territorial marking, aggression, etc.
Is the DAP device safe?
The DAP diffuser device is made in the EC to comply with British Standard BS 60335. The device is widely used across Europe for plug-in air fresheners, mosquito coils, etc.
What pheromone is in DAP and is this safe to humans?
The pheromones released from DAP are nature identical to the canine ’appeasing’ pheromones secreted by bitches from 3-5 days after the puppy’s birth. As pheromones are species-specific, canine pheromones will have no effect on humans. The actual concentration of pheromone in the air at any one time is tiny.
Should the device be used if a member of the household suffers from asthma?
In addition to the pheromone content, DAP contains a mineral oil of a kind common to other air freshener devices. We are not aware of specific problems for asthma sufferers from such devices, however if you consider yourself to be particularly sensitive, or have had problems when using similar devices in the past, then we advise you to use the device only after consulting with your GP.
Is DAP safe to use if a member of the household is pregnant?
The DAP diffuser is safe to use if you are pregnant.
Will the DAP diffuser have any effect on other pets?
Pheromones are species specific and no effect on other pets than dogs is to be expected.
Is the DAP diffuser as effective in adult dogs as it is in puppies?
Research has clearly shown that the reassuring properties of canine appeasing pheromone persist into adulthood.
Does the refill need changing even though the liquid has not completely run out?
Some devices will run for a little longer than the 4 weeks due to differences in location, air turnover, etc so you may get slightly more than 4 weeks. But remember that the device will never empty completely as the last few millilitres of liquid are not sufficiently in contact with the wick. We advise that you replace the vial after 6 weeks even if some liquid remains.
The level of liquid appears not to be going down?
Slight variations will occur depending on air turnover. Check that the wick is not broken (should extend from the bottom of the liquid to a level flush with the top of the heated ceramic plate). Check the device is turned on all the time. Finally, try the device in a different electrical socket.
Can the DAP diffuser be used in the same room as a plug in air freshener?
Yes, but do not plug in the same double socket.
The diffuser smells of burning, is it safe?
The DAP diffuser device is made in the EC to comply with British Standard BS 60335. The device is widely used across Europe for plug-in air fresheners, mosquito coils, etc. New diffusers may smell slightly when first switched on, just as an electrical heater might when dust has collected on it. Diffusers in a very dusty environment may smell more persistently. Be sure that a dog or cat has not urinated or sprayed onto the device.
Will the DAP diffuser help dogs that are destructive within the house?
If your vet or behaviourist believes this behaviour is related to fear or stress there is a good chance DAP will help especially if used in conjunction with behavioural modification therapy. In trials destructive behaviour was reduced by 85%. NOTE ? destructive dogs may focus their destructive behaviour towards eletrical items within the home ? be sure to place the diffuser well out of the dogs reach.
If a dog is prone to eating electrical devices, where should the diffuser be plugged in?
You should ensure that the device is plugged in where the dog will not be able to reach it.
What should be done if a dog eats the diffuser/swallows the liquid?
The immediate risk is one of electrocution. The ingestion of the oil within the vial might give rise to diarrhoea as paraffin oils are sometimes administered for their laxative properties. Be aware that small parts could cause a chocking hazard. If you suspect your dog has eaten part of the device please consult your vet.
Why should the diffuser not be plugged in under furniture?
Oil vapour (carrying the pheromones) will rise in a column of warm air above the device. If this rising air is blocked (e.g. under a shelf, table, cabinet, etc) the oil may re-condense and leave a visible mark. Circulation of pheromone will be impaired.
Should the diffuser be switched off at night?
No – the diffuser should be left on continuously day and night.
Can some of the liquid be emptied out in to the back of the car for when a dog has to travel?
No – the oily formulation is only designed for use in an electric diffuser.
Can a DAP refill be used in the Feliway diffuser device?
Yes, the device is the same, although they should not be used in any other plug in device such as an air freshener.
